When I pondered the meaning of the word HOPE, my favorite animal shelter came to mind. The Houston SPCA is truely a safe haven for lost and abandoned animals. It is a "no kill" shelter and the volunteers are kind and loving to the animals. It is run entirely on donations and receives no government funding. It is very clean and efficient too! It has been a part of Houston since 1924.

Hi , my name is CHANCE and I am hoping for a new home very soon. Ain't I cute!!
This rottweiler was huge but very affectionate towards me...He was begging me to play with him.
I must say that even though this is my favorite shelter and it provides a huge service to our animal friends, it is very difficult for me to visit. I just drop in, offer a little love and money, and then say "GOODBYE". I always feel a bit sad and even guilty for not doing more! I am so thankful for all the volunteers and donors who make such a difference in the lives of these precious beings!!!

Little Miss Amber
They call this little brindle boxer "Rocky". He was hit by a car and the shelter performed emergency surgery on his leg to save his life. He may have only 3 legs now, but he is amazingly skillful at walking and play.
